The Cuban Press set comes to us from the CAO company who decided to take a few of their more popular blends, squish them together in a different manner creating their now infamous, Cuban Press Box set containing a total of 12 cigars – Brazila, Italia, MX2 and LX2 – 3 of each. From what I have been able to gather, there is zero difference between these and their other blends but rather a different ‘format’.
Similar to the other LX2’s – this cigar is very well made with no blemishes, evenly packed from head to foot, the latter which has been adorned with a silver foot band, announcing the Cuban Press line. As always, my pet peeve worried me but both bands removed without an issue, another flawless start.
Although a bit more mild than a few of the other LX’2 that I’ve had, the flavors seemed to be right in tune with what I remembered. High levels of spice and pepper to begin with, the ligero kicking into high gear near the midway point. Near this point, the sweeter, almost chocolate notes became apparent but were never in the foreground, the pepper maintaining that role.
I personally purchased this sampler pack because, although I am a fan of CAO, I had never been able to try these and figured what the heck, lets give it a shot. Wish there was a better story, but it was more on a whim than anything else. I was expecting this smoke to be nearly identical to the LX2 robusto but was pleasantly surprised to find a more mild version (in regards to the spice) still packed with flavor. If you can find a single give it a shot or if you are like me and wanting to try something a bit out of the norm splurge for the full set, it comes up to about $6.00 usd per smoke but as I said before, don’t expect anything too terribly different from the regular LX2.
