Here we have another installment from the great people of the CAO company, their MX2 Cuban Press. Just like the other blends within the Cuban Press Box Set, the Italia, LX2 and Brazilia are the same original blends but pressed differently to create this well defined ‘box press’ they call a Cuban Press. Lets see how this one does for us!
CAO never lets me down, each and every stick was perfectly made with no blemishes to be found. Evenly packed, nice cap, slightly spongy at base… I did say they were near perfect right? I remark ‘near’ because 2 of the 3, the foot band stuck to the bottom of the wrapper, starting the CAO MX2 Cuban Press off with a minor amount of damage.
Very similar to their normal MX2 blend, the flavors seem to be a bit more defined. Yeah yeah, its because of the shape of the cigar – we will see. A nice healthy dose of sweet maduro runs the show with a few hints of pepper to balance it out. Near the end the earthy flavors show their face, a nice but almost overwhelming spicy finish.
I liked this smoke, but I’m not the worlds biggest maduro fan so don’t take my opinion as gospel. I liked the robusto version of the MX2 a little more but I honestly am not sure why, they ‘should’ perform about the same. Again, I am not sad that I was able to try it, if nothing else it came with a pretty awesome box and a few other good smokes!
