Cigar Legislation: Czech Government Bans Smoking In Restaurants, Bars and Cafe’s

Following many countries, the Czech Government has officially approved a ban on smoking in restaurants, bars and cafes. While the ban has been all encompassing the government has specifically added verbage to include electronic cigarettes and vaporizers. This ban also includes the prohibited sale of cigarettes in hospitals and schools. Cigar Legislation: Newark, NJ Expands Smoking Bans

Yesterday Newark, New Jersey mayor Ras Baraka signed a new ordinance banning smoking in all city parks, recreational facilities (including senior centers), and city owned vehicles.  Mayor Baraka says that this ban is to protect children from smoking stating: “Our young people are victimized by this…even though they don’t smoke.”   The new law also increased the smoking distance from these places from 25ft to 50ft.  The ordinance also includes vapor devices and hookah.  Newark, NJ has a high crime rate and was named the 6th most dangerous U.S. city…

Cigar Legislation: Ontario Smokers Get Hosed

Beginning January 1st the province of Ontario Canada will have an increase on outdoor smoking bans.  The new bans will prohibit smoking on restaurant patios, at sports fields and ice rinks, and playgrounds.  All areas except patios will have a 20 meter restriction and fines up to $250 will be in place.   Also going into effect is a ban on tobacco sales on all college and university campuses throughout the province.  This is part of the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and is aimed at keeping smoking away from children while also seeming…

Cigar Legislation: Evanston, IL Rasises Tobacco Purchase Age

Recently the city of Evanston, Illinois became the first Illinois city to raise their tobacco purchase age to 21.  Evanston residents may now vote and die for their country but can no longer buy tobacco at 18 since the electedofficials now know what is best for them!   City officials site the reaon for the new ordinance is that statistics show those wh smoke most often begin in their teens.  40 other municipalities have joined in striping rights from legal adults and raised their tobacco purchase age to 21.  We…

Cigar Legislation: San Mateo County

San Mateo County, California Board of Supervisors has recently voted 4-1 to ban smoking in all areas in and around condominiums and apartments. Owners of buildings will now be required to post no smoking signs around properties, residents will be required at least 30 feet away from all buildings when smoking; this includes no smoking on balconies or patios. The supervisors also voted unanimously to include electronic devices under the definition of tobacco and smoking products.
